An Upper East Side apartment tour. Come on in!

Welcome to our home.

We live in a one bedroom walk-up on the Upper East Side, east of Central Park. 6 minutes from the express subway and steps from restaurants, bars, retail and even a coffee shop next door :: happy dance, oh happy dance :: ! Note Richard's mouthwash solution above… placed in reused bottle of whiskey with a shot glass next to it. :)

The above framed photo in our bathroom is a picture we took at the corner of 79th and York. Where we first lived in NYC.

In these tiny bathrooms, you learn to build up on the walls. And we hated the lighting so installed a few fun twinkles of our own.

This apartment has a funky little spot that we lovingly named Alford's! Our friend's daughter couldn't quite say Richard's name when they came to visit us from Texas last year... but she sure clung on to "Alford, Alford, Alfoooooord!". :)

Our home is filled with fun memories, inside jokes and lovely finds from the people that mean the most to us.

Drumroll please... an actual kitchen. A place to truly walk inside and cook. Size of a closet? Why yes! :) Since there is no natural light in our kitchen I filled it with photos of family, friends and travel... and included some of my favorite quotes. My version of sunshine. And I love that our soap dispenser is a bottle of wine we share under the Eiffel Tower for our 5th anniversary

Richard developed an attachment to this kitchen table the moment we saw it. Not only does it match our decor (and hallelujah we finally have space for a table), it completely folds down in 2.5 seconds. Amazing.

We filled the walls with all the places we have traveled. Including our 50 State photo college. And created a cozy little nook with benches.

I love mis-matched dishes. They make life less stressful. Breaking a dish then becomes exciting because you can add a new one to the mix!

Our purple kitchen island made it to this apartment.
I keep telling Richard that one day it will be repurposed for a nursery.

We painted our walls green. Pickle can't get enough of her new sunshine spot, along with our window "garden". And sundae stays on patrol.

These Ikea bookshelves have been wonderful. And my desk is tucked away behind the chair. When we need it, we just turn the chair around and pop it out from the wall.

Our repurposed trays.

I talked about our ikea-hacked headboard here. Which allowed us back into adulthood. Happy to be a headboard family once again.

We have so much creative organization on our walls. I firmly believe that you can stay organized in any space as long as everything has a place. And a handy husband helps. ;)

Flowers, candles and photos are things that make me feel at home. And, yes, Richard is reading through the classics.

We love to hang out in our bedroom and cuddle with these two.

After spending two years living in a NYC apartment where I never knew the weather... I absolutely love having this view from our bedroom and living room.

We loved our first NYC apartment so much, and have fallen in love all over again.

  4. Your apartment looks amazing, Jessa! Is it just me or does your apartment gives off a slight Southern vibe? Hahaha! Anyway, I love Humans of New York. Brandon is an amazing photographer, and the way strangers open up to him is very inspirational. Thank you so much for giving us a tour of your apartment! All the best to you! :)
